The Moorings

Sitting on its embankment above King Street since 1933, "The Moorings" is, along with Segenhoe and Cliff Towers, one of the three finest art deco residential buildings in Newcastle and full of heritage character. The history of The Moorings is intimately linked to that of the adjacent Cliff Towers, both being constructed by Mrs Lena Campbell, once owner of the famous Star Hotel, to the design of prominent local architect John Oldham in 1935. The Moorings, while of a more flamboyant appearance, was the simpler of the two, being designed specifically as bachelor apartments.
